In chapter 6, Nausicaa, it begins in the city of the Phaecians where Alcinous rules. Alcinous has a daughter named Nausicca and while she is sleeping the goddess Athene visits her in a dream as her best friend Dymas. She tells her to take her dirty fine clothes down to the washing pools to look presentable because she is going to have a husband soon although she wants Odysseus to find them once they get to the river so he can goet to the city. She awakes and asks her father for a wagon and mules to the wash and he gives it to her. Once Nausicca and her maidens are there they wash, bathe, eat, and play ball. They accidentally kick the ball into the river making them shriek which wakes up Odysseus. Once awake he is naked and asks kindly for them help back home from where he came from and they oblige. They give him clothing and olive oil and Athene makes him look presentable. Nausicca asks him to trail behind their wagon into the city and wait where they pray to Athene so her people don’t take offense if they think she is bringing home a husband who is not from the city. She also tells him that once he is in the palace to go straight to her mother because she will sympathize with him for being away from home and give him what he needs to return there. While he waits to get inside the palace he prays to Athene who will not show herself as to not upset her father’s brother, Poseidon.
